
Mumbai : India’s Leading commodity derivatives exchange, Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has recorded turnover of Rs.1099588.86 crores in various futures & option contracts for commodities listed at MCX during the week of May 2-8. In which commodity futures accounted for Rs.177794.24 crores and options on commodity futures for Rs.921781.68 crores (notional). Bullion Index MCXBULLDEX May-25 futures was reached at 22132. The total premium turnover in commodity options was Rs.19,571.02 crore.
It is noteworthy that at the end of the week, on Friday, May 8, a record trading volume of 189 kilograms worth ₹183 crore was recorded in GOLD-TEN futures on MCX.
Bullion: In precious metals, Turnover of GOLD and SILVER futures variants clocked Rs.131367.07 crores. MCX GOLD June futures opened at Rs.92,835, touched an intra-day high of Rs.97,559 and a low of Rs.92,370, and closed at Rs.96,168 per 10 grams, up Rs.3,829 or 4.15% from the previous close of Rs.92,339. GOLD-GUINEA May futures rose by Rs.2,786 or 3.73%, closing at Rs.77,471 per 8 grams. GOLD-PETAL May futures gained Rs.342 or 3.65%, closing at Rs.9,705 per 1 gram. GOLD-MINI June futures opened at Rs.92,948, hit an intra-day high of Rs.97,500 and a low of Rs.92,425, and closed at Rs.96,153 per 10 grams, up Rs.3,771 or 4.08%. GOLD-TEN May futures opened at Rs.92,920, touched an intra-day high of Rs.97,601 and a low of Rs.92,713, and closed at Rs.96,401 per 10 grams, up Rs.3,742 or 4.04% from the previous close of Rs.92,659.
In SILVER futures, SILVER July futures opened at Rs.95,189, hit an intra-day high of Rs.96,888 and a low of Rs.93,804, and closed at Rs.96,512 per kg, up Rs.1,783 or 1.88% from the previous close of Rs.94,729. SILVER-MINI June futures rose by Rs.1,686 or 1.78%, closing at Rs.96,506 per kg. SILVER-MICRO June futures gained Rs.1,672 or 1.76%, closing at Rs.96,513 per kg.
GOLD futures clocked turnover of Rs.70557.06 crores with volume of 73846 lots and OI of 14423 lots while SILVER futures clocked turnover of Rs.16520.07 crores with volume of 57521 lots and OI of 16305 lots.
Base Metal: Turnover of base metal futures products accounted for Rs.11222.45 crores. COPPER May futures rose by Rs.25.2 or 3.03%, closing at Rs.855.9 per kg. ZINC May futures gained Rs.6.8 or 2.78%, closing at Rs.251.05 per kg. ALUMINIUM May futures rose by Rs.3.4 or 1.47%, closing at Rs.234.3 per kg. LEAD May futures increased by Rs.1.15 or 0.65%, closing at Rs.178.25 per kg. COPPER futures clocked turnover of Rs.7033.00 crores, ALUMINIUM futures Rs.1018.33 crores, LEAD futures Rs.319.32 crores, and ZINC futures clocked turnover of Rs.1969.94 crores.
Energy: Turnover of energy futures products contributed for Rs.39411.14 crores. MCX CRUDE OIL May futures opened at Rs.4,990, hit an intra-day high of Rs.5,168 and a low of Rs.4,724, and closed at Rs.5,163 per barrel, up Rs.191 or 3.84%. CRUDE OIL-MINI May futures rose by Rs.188 or 3.78%, closing at Rs.5,162 per barrel. NATURAL GAS May futures opened at Rs.291, touched an intra-day high of Rs.318.2 and a low of Rs.288, and closed at Rs.306.8 per MMBTU, up Rs.16.2 or 5.57% from the previous close of Rs.290.6. NATURAL GAS-MINI May futures gained Rs.16.4 or 5.65%, closing at Rs.306.9 per MMBTU. CRUDE OIL futures clocked turnover of Rs.7697.40 crores and NATURAL GAS futures Rs.26381.68 crores.
AGRI: In agricultural commodities, MENTHA OIL May futures opened at Rs.913.7 and closed at Rs.925.4 per kg, up Rs.11.7 or 1.28%. COTTON CANDY May futures remained unchanged at Rs.54,190 per candy.
In terms of trading volume, GOLD contracts on MCX recorded Rs.1,01,709.73 crore, and SILVER contracts Rs.29,657.34 crore. COPPER futures saw Rs.7,033 crore, ALUMINIUM and ALUMINIUM-MINI futures Rs.1,274.60 crore, LEAD and LEAD-MINI futures Rs.351.12 crore, and ZINC and ZINC-MINI futures Rs.2,563.73 crore in trading.
CRUDE OIL and CRUDE OIL-MINI futures recorded Rs.8,812.04 crore, while NATURAL GAS and NATURAL GAS-MINI futures saw Rs.30,599.10 crore in trading. MENTHA OIL futures recorded Rs.9.30 crore, and COTTON CANDY futures Rs.1.70 crore in trading.
Open interest at the week’s end stood at 14,423 lots for GOLD futures, 25,087 lots for GOLD-MINI futures, 4,831 lots for GOLD-guinea futures, 63,677 lots for GOLD-petal futures, and 4,531 lots for GOLD-TEN futures. SILVER futures had 16,305 lots, SILVER-MINI futures 24,920 lots, and SILVER-micro futures 80,985 lots. CRUDE OIL futures had 14,517 lots, and NATURAL GAS futures 13,988 lots.
In index futures, MCXBulldex May futures opened at 21,338 points, touched an intra-day high of 22,301 and a low of 21,323, and closed at 22,132 points, up 809 points.
