
xMumbai: During the week of May 30 to June 5, the leading commodity derivatives exchange MCX recorded a turnover of Rs.1,065,285.75 crore in commodity futures, options, and index futures. Commodity futures saw a trading volume of Rs.201,902.62 crore, while commodity options recorded a notional turnover of Rs.863,361.18 crore. The Bullion Index Bulldex June futures closed at 22,597 points. The total premium turnover in commodity options was Rs.18,602.44 crore.
During the week under review, precious metals, including gold and silver futures, saw trading worth Rs.154,184.94 crore. MCX Gold August futures opened at Rs.95,799, touched an intra-day high of Rs.99,214 and a low of Rs.95,411, and closed at Rs.97,874 per 10 grams, up Rs.1,415 or 1.47% from the previous close of Rs.96,459. Gold-Guinea June futures rose by Rs.1,274 or 1.65%, closing at Rs.78,314 per 8 grams. Gold-Petal June futures gained Rs.148 or 1.53%, closing at Rs.9,816 per gram. Gold-Mini July futures opened at Rs.95,990, hit an intra-day high of Rs.98,658 and a low of Rs.95,050, and closed at Rs.97,415 per 10 grams, up Rs.1,437 or 1.5%. Gold-Ten June futures opened at Rs.95,812, touched an intra-day high of Rs.98,810 and a low of Rs.95,327, and closed at Rs.97,650 per 10 grams, up Rs.1,521 or 1.58% from the previous close of Rs.96,129.
In silver futures, Silver July futures opened at Rs.97,252, hit an intra-day high of Rs.105,484 and a low of Rs.96,742, and closed at Rs.104,443 per kilogram, up Rs.6,617 or 6.76% from the previous close of Rs.97,826. Silver-Mini June futures rose by Rs.6,495 or 6.65%, closing at Rs.104,210 per kilogram, while Silver-Micro June futures gained Rs.6,498 or 6.65%, closing at Rs.104,202 per kilogram.
In the metals segment, trading worth Rs.11,897.24 crore was recorded. Copper June futures rose by Rs.17.95 or 2.08%, closing at Rs.880.2 per kilogram. Zinc June futures gained Rs.1.05 or 0.41%, closing at Rs.255.35 per kilogram. Aluminium June futures increased by Rs.3.85 or 1.63%, closing at Rs.240.3 per kilogram, while Lead June futures rose by Rs.1.2 or 0.67%, closing at Rs.179.4 per kilogram.
In the energy segment, traders executed deals worth Rs.35,810.07 crore. MCX Crude Oil June futures opened at Rs.5,192, touched an intra-day high of Rs.5,491 and a low of Rs.5,132, and closed at Rs.5,442 per barrel, up Rs.227 or 4.35%. Crude Oil-Mini June futures gained Rs.224 or 4.29%, closing at Rs.5,443 per barrel. Natural Gas June futures opened at Rs.302.6, hit an intra-day high of Rs.325.2 and a low of Rs.295, and closed at Rs.319.7 per MMBTU, up Rs.20.3 or 6.78% from the previous close of Rs.299.4. Natural Gas-Mini June futures rose by Rs.20.4 or 6.82%, closing at Rs.319.7 per MMBTU.
In agricultural commodities, Mentha Oil June futures opened at Rs.914 and fell by Rs.10.5 or 1.15%, closing at Rs.902.7 per kilogram. Cotton Candy July futures dropped by Rs.310 or 0.58%, closing at Rs.53,600 per candy.
In terms of trading volume on MCX, gold contracts saw Rs.95,633.50 crore in trading, while silver contracts recorded Rs.58,551.44 crore. Copper futures saw Rs.7,911.32 crore, aluminium and aluminium-mini futures Rs.1,113.62 crore, lead and lead-mini futures Rs.301.05 crore, and zinc and zinc-mini futures Rs.2,571.26 crore in trading.
Crude oil and crude oil-mini futures recorded Rs.10,369.56 crore in trading, while natural gas and natural gas-mini futures saw Rs.25,440.51 crore. Mentha oil futures recorded Rs.8.76 crore, and cotton candy futures saw Rs.1.61 crore in trading.
Open interest at the week’s end stood at 15,231 lots for gold futures, 27,225 lots for gold-mini futures, 5,517 lots for gold-guinea futures, 68,351 lots for gold-petal futures, and 7,530 lots for gold-ten futures. Silver futures had 20,560 lots, silver-mini futures 32,506 lots, and silver-micro futures 92,634 lots. Crude oil futures had 6,761 lots, and natural gas futures had 13,981 lots.
In index futures, Bulldex June futures opened at 21,870 points, touched an intra-day high of 22,891 and a low of 21,781, and closed at 22,597 points, up 638 points.
